A Word from Pastor Chuck Herring
Jean Ann Rush, Ministry Assistant
(901) 853-2668 Ext. 109
What is the purpose of Collierville First Baptist Church? That’s a great question, and it deserves a clear, concise answer. So, here it is—“We exist to glorify God by totally committing ourselves to Jesus Christ and to the explosive growth of His kingdom.”
Isolation is not an option in the Christian faith. We need to mutually encourage one another as we seek to glorify our Lord, commit ourselves to Him, and join Him in the supernatural growth of His kingdom. Healthy, Christ-honoring relationships are nourished in an environment where the Word of God is preached and taught on a consistent basis.
I challenge you to be an active part in making this great purpose a reality!
Join us this Sunday at 9:30 a.m. for our Morning Worship Service. Meet some new friends, go deeper in the Word and find a place of ministry.

My Faith Story
My family—including my dad, mom, and sister—lived in Saltillo, MS. Growing up was a challenge because my dad was an alcoholic. We basically had to walk around as though on eggshells, especially on weekends.
My mom was a Christian. She faithfully took my sister and me to church at Saltillo Baptist Church. Dad rarely went to church with us. When I was 10 years old, the pastor preached a sermon on hell. Suddenly those times when I had violated God’s commandments shook me to the core.
I went to Mom and told her what I was feeling in my heart. She called our pastor; he came to our house and shared with me the most wonderful news I had ever heard. He said that God loved me so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for all my sins. God then raised Jesus from the dead. That day as a ten year old boy I responded to what God was doing in my heart by turning from my sin and placing my faith in Jesus Christ. I still had to walk around on eggshells at home because my dad’s heart was not changed. However, Jesus forgave my sin and gave me a new life.
When I was 21 years old I married Darlene, my high school sweetheart. For the next nine years of our life together, I completed my college degree and pursued a career in coaching and teaching. God blessed us with two wonderful children. The Lord Jesus fulfilled a lifelong dream by empowering me to be a committed husband to my wife and a loving and involved dad to my kids.
At the age of 30, the Lord made it clear to me that He wanted me to leave the coaching profession in order to enter the ministry. After much prayer, Darlene and I simply stepped out in faith and obeyed the Lord. We moved to New Orleans to begin training in the seminary there. After graduating in 1986, I served as the pastor of two churches over a span of almost seventeen years. Then in 2003 I became the pastor of Collierville First Baptist Church.
Amazed. Blessed. Honored. All these words describe the way I feel concerning the impact the Lord Jesus has made and is making in my life. Glory to Him alone!
