Orphanage in Zambia

New Day Orphanage in Zambia

African Zambia is home to over 1 million children orphaned due to their parents’ deaths from AIDS/HIV. From the tragedy of the children’s desperate lives has arisen New Day Orphanage, a ministry of Blue and Darbi Tidwell and Wes and Laurie Wilcox.

In this country where the average life expectancy is only 36 years, New Day Orphanage was conceived to give Zambian orphans hope by providing them a home where they can feel loved, receive adequate care, learn about Jesus from a young age, receive a quality education, and learn the good things of their culture. The Tidwells’ and the Wilcoxes’ hearts’ desire is that these young people grow up to know Jesus personally and have a passion to reach their own nation for Christ.

Toward that goal, our church has entered into a partnership with these couples and the orphanage they founded.  Wes and Laurie Wilcox served in Zambia from 1998 until April 2011 as International Mission Board church planters.  Although  they saw many successes in that capacity, they felt the need to do more to reach Zambia for Christ.  God gave them a burden for the many children they encountered who were orphaned primarily due to HIV/AIDS. They also felt that to have a true church planting movement; they needed to reach the children of Zambia, who could grow up to reach their own nation for Christ.

Blue and Darbi Tidwell came to Zambia in 2005 to work with the Wilcoxes as short-term missionaries. During their time in Zambia, God gave them a love for orphans and a desire to teach them God’s Word while helping them rise above their hopeless living conditions.

The result of these God-given concerns is New Day Orphanage. Under the direction of our Mission Committee, our church will support these couples and the children of New Day Orphanage with our prayers and financial assistance. Look for prayer updates in your Bible Fellowship records box and in the Prayer Concerns handout at our Wednesday night prayer meeting.
